Stephanie’s Spotlight: “The Edge Harlem” Restaurant
Harlem is so magical. It’s definitely one of the hottest places to be, and since it’s my own backyard, I decided to start giving some reviews or spotlights on some of my favorite places to patronize.
This spotlight is on: “The Edge Harlem,” a cozy, brick faced little restaurant and bar. It’s been a favorite of mine for about the past three years, so this post is long overdue. It’s owned by two sisters of Jamaican and English heritage; Juliet and Justine Masters. Their culture is reflected in the decor and menus. The Edge’s brunch menu is divided into three regions: Jamaica, New York and England, featuring dishes like the Jerk chicken and waffle, BLT on Texas toast, and the awesome fish and chips. The sorrel is authentic and awesome all alone or mixed with my personal favorite, their signature cocktail: “The 580,” a mixture of rum punch, sorrel and champagne. The dinner menu features “small bites” like the jerk wings or codfish fritters, and a rotating list of savory specials. My personal favorite is the jerk salmon filet, but it’s hard to have a favorite when you have items like braised oxtails tempting you as well.
Like many of the new Harlem spots, The Edge is a charming, intimate, setting. The comfy cushioned seats, well-chosen mixture of vintage decor, and the personally hand curated floral arrangements, make you feel like you’re at friend’s brownstone for drinks and a good time. The crowd is diverse in every way, the menu is eclectic, and the servers are friendly. If you’re out and about in Harlem and want to feed your soul, give them a try.
