Harlem Eats: Il Caffe Latte 2
Harlem is filled with lots of charming, uniquely decorated places to eat. I recently visited “Il Caffe Latte 2,” a cute cafe nestled in a beautiful converted brownstone in the Sugar Hill section of Harlem. There are two locations of this restaurant. There’s Il Caffe Latte 1, a much busier location on Lenox Avenue, but the atmosphere at this location on 145th St., cannot be beat. I found it to be the perfect spot to treat my daughter to brunch, but honestly this little cafe is ideal for any date. It’s a hidden little gem, so getting a table is usually pretty easy. There’s relaxing music and wonderful local artwork displayed. The tasty, reasonably priced dishes coupled with a unique selection of events like open mic night, featured artist evenings, and live jazz music, makes this a cute little spot for dining solo, hosting a small event, or date night. When you add in speedy service, happy hour specials, and a full dessert menu featuring the best key lime pie ever, visiting becomes a no-brainer.
The upstairs level is even more charming. I could not get enough of it. It’s where all the events are held. You can eat up there if the downstairs is full, and you can also rent it out. It would be perfect for a cozy work meeting or a birthday brunch celebration. The owner Young is a sweetheart who makes you feel like a guest in her home. If you’re in this area, stop in. From the savory omelets, to the perfect balsamic dressing on the salads, to the Hibiscus Prosecco, you will not be disappointed.
